From the low string to the high one you hear E, B, D, A, B and E. Of the six strings you play, two give E, the note that names the chord. The lowest and highest notes are both E, two octaves apart, on strings 6 and 1.
E7sus4 lets four strings ring open. String 6 gives E, string 4 gives D, string 2 gives B and string 1 gives E. Every finger presses at fret 2. The second shape on this page starts at fret 7.
E7 is one change away. String 3 moves from fret 2 to fret 1, bringing in G#, the major third of E7. It shares two notes with G, B and D. The change that keeps the most fingers still is to B7. Two stay in place.
E7sus4 shows up in eight keys. In A major it is the V7sus4, in G major the VI7sus4 and in D major the II7sus4. The rest appear in the key list.
