What sets Ebaug apart

Ebaug is built from Eb, G and B. Eb is the root, G the major third and B the sharp fifth. Said aloud, its notes are E flat, G and B. Its three notes are four semitones apart. Move the shape four frets and you land on the same notes again.

String by string, low to high, it plays Eb, G, B and Eb. Of the four strings you play, two give Eb, the note that names the chord. The lowest and highest notes are both Eb, one octave apart, on strings 5 and 2.

Ebaug uses no barre and no open strings, so you can slide the shape up the neck without changing fingers. Strings 6 and 1 stay silent. Your hand covers three frets, from 4 to 6. There is one more position, starting at fret 8.

Ebaug and Cm have Eb and G in common. Cm shares two positions with this shape.
