What sets F#aug apart

F#aug is built from F#, A# and D. F# is the root, A# the major third and D the sharp fifth. Said aloud, its notes are F sharp, A sharp and D. Its three notes are four semitones apart. Move the shape four frets and you land on the same notes again.

String by string, low to high, it plays F#, A#, D and F#. Of the four strings you play, two give F#, the note that names the chord. The lowest and highest notes are both F#, one octave apart, on strings 5 and 2.

F#aug uses no barre and no open strings, so you can slide the shape up the neck without changing fingers. Strings 6 and 1 stay silent. Your hand covers three frets, from 7 to 9. There is one more position, starting at fret 2.

F#aug and D#m have F# and A# in common. Ebm shares two positions with this shape.
