What sets Abaug apart

The notes of Abaug are Ab, C and E. Ab is the root, C the major third and E the sharp fifth. Said aloud, its notes are A flat, C and E. Its three notes are four semitones apart. Move the shape four frets and you land on the same notes again.

String by string, low to high, it plays Ab, E, Ab and C. Ab rings twice across the four strings, and it is the root. It runs from Ab on string 6 up to C on string 2.

Abaug uses no barre and no open strings, so you can slide the shape up the neck without changing fingers. Strings 5 and 1 stay silent. Your hand covers four frets, from 1 to 4. There is one more position, starting at fret 9.

Abaug and Fm have Ab and C in common. Fm shares two positions with this shape.
