What sets Bdim7 apart

The notes of Bdim7 are B, D, F and Ab. B is the root, D the minor third, F the flat fifth and Ab the diminished seventh. Said aloud, its notes are B, D, F and A flat. Each note sits three semitones above the one before. Slide the same shape three frets and you get the same notes.

From the low string to the high one you hear B, F, Ab and D. The lowest note is B on string 5 and the highest is D on string 2.

Bdim7 is a closed shape with no open strings. Move it to another fret and the chord changes, but the fingering stays. Strings 6 and 1 are not played. Everything fits between frets 1 and 3. Besides the main one there are two more shapes, at frets 1 and 6.

Bm7b5 is one change away. String 3 moves from fret 1 to fret 2, bringing in A, the minor seventh of Bm7b5. It shares two notes with G, B and D. The change that keeps the most fingers still is to E. Two stay in place.
