What sets Faug apart

Faug is built from F, A and C#. F is the root, A the major third and C# the sharp fifth. Said aloud, its notes are F, A and C sharp. Its three notes are four semitones apart. Move the shape four frets and you land on the same notes again.

From the low string to the high one you hear F, A, C# and F. F rings twice across the four strings, and it is the root. The lowest and highest notes are both F, one octave apart, on strings 4 and 1.

Faug is a closed shape with no open strings. Move it to another fret and the chord changes, but the fingering stays. Strings 6 and 5 are not played. Everything fits between frets 1 and 3. The second shape on this page starts at fret 6.

From Faug to Fmaj7 only two strings change, 2 and 1. It shares two notes with Dm, F and A. Going to F, three positions stay the same.
